Our Story

Hi everyone! My name is Katie Degnan. I am a recent Boston College graduate, and the proud creator /owner of KD Sourdough. I started KD Sourdough in May 2024 as a way to spread my love for baking with others. KD Sourdough was supposed to be a one-summer experiment, but I loved it so much that I have decided to continue the business … at least until I secure a full time job ;)

Everything sold on KD Sourdough is prepped and baked by me in my family’s home kitchen in Mashpee, MA. The kitchen is licensed and has been inspected by the town’s Board of Health. In addition to operating out of a licensed residential kitchen, I also have two ServSafe Certifications — Allergen Awareness and Food Handlers.

To rewind a bit, I started my sourdough journey in January 2024. I was buying sourdough at the store every week, so I decided why not try and make some myself? Thanks to TikTok, I had an endless supply of tutorials and recipes. TikTok also taught me that it is common practice in the sourdough community to name your starter — mine is named Peeta. For any Hunger Games fans readings this, yes I named it after Peeta Mellark (my roommates and I had just binge-watched the Hunger Games, so I thought it was fitting.) Anyway, fast-forward to now … KD Sourdough is back for its second summer!

I am so grateful to have received such support from so many people over the past year. Words cannot express how much it means to me that people love what I have created!
